On Thursday, February 16, SmartCell Sudbury Store Manager Abigail Robineau presented a cheque for $1000 to Director Rev. Amanda M. Robichaud of the Elgin Street Mission, marking the culmination of SmartCell Sudbury’s successful #onegoalonemealonemission partnership with the Greater Sudbury Cubs.
Over the 2021-2022 regular season, SmartCell Communications in Sudbury pledged to donate one meal, or $10, for every goal the Cubs scored on home ice.
The Cubs responded with a total of seventy-seven home-ice goals, and SmartCell Communications’ then rounded up the donation to a total of $1000.
Supporting the Elgin Street Mission is a matter of great pride for Abigail Robineau and the SmartCell Sudbury team.
“As someone who grew up in Greater Sudbury, seeing all of the people in need, I couldn’t be prouder to support the Elgin Street Mission for what they represent and do for the community on a daily basis,” says Robineau.

As the Greater Sudbury Cubs wrap up their regular season, the SmartCell Sudbury #OneGoalOneMealOneMission campaign is coming to an end.
At the beginning of the season, SmartCell Communications pledged to make a ten dollar donation to Elgin Street Mission for every Cub’s goal scored on home ice and recently, the campaign received a surprising boost from SmartCell’s community partners. “Unbeknownst to us, our industry partners SWAT Media Group, Incapture and the Sudbury Cubs Care Program are now matching that donation,” explains SmartCell Communications Director of Marketing Carly Comtois.
Once the home ice goals have been tallied and the final donation amount is determined, the partners will present a cheque to the Elgin Street Mission during an upcoming Cubs playoff game. And while this signifies the end of the years’ giving campaign, SmartCell Sudbury and its partners will continue to support the Mission through a new online giving platform.
Introducing Mission Express
In collaboration with Incapture and SWAT Media Group, and proudly supported by the Cathie Comtois Benevolent Fund, SmartCell is helping to simplify food donations via their newly developed Express Food Donation Program. Donors can now use the online grocery delivery service Instacart and give to the Mission without leaving the comfort of home. Then, in under an hour, Instacart will arrange for the pick-up and delivery of the food items that you have purchased.

Mission Express makes it easier than ever for donors to provide immediate support and meet those areas of greatest need, says Comtois.
“The reason we launched this program is not just for citizens of Greater Sudbury. People everywhere are now able to donate and arrange delivery to the Mission, with a press of the button. And to ensure the contributions are as meaningful as possible, the mission posts a list of its biggest needs on social media every Monday. Donors can consult that list and help the mission better plan its meals, using its resources more efficiently.”
The Greater Sudbury Cubs will host the Soo Eagles in a rare Tuesday home game at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday will be Toonie Tuesday night, as everyone will receive admission to the game for two dollars.
SmartCell Communications in Sudbury will sponsor the game with three Fan of the Game prizes, including a Google Nest. Tickets are available at the door.
Beginning Thursday February 10th until the end of the month, the Sudbury Cubs will tape their sticks using the hockey diversity alliance’s #TAPEOUTHATE hockey tape.
This special tape created by the HDA, in collaboration with Budweiser, is currently available at Canadian Tire Stores across Greater Sudbury with $1 of each roll sold going towards helping the alliance’s mission to eradicate racism in hockey once and for all.

November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month. This month and throughout the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence from November 25th- December 10th, we are accepting in-store donations of $2 in support of the Wrapped in Courage campaign and 60 participating violence against women shelters across Ontario. Our team is taking action to end gender-based violence and letting survivors know they are not alone!
On November 25th, we will be wearing a purple scarf to show our support. The purple scarf is a symbol of the courage it takes a woman to leave her abuser. However, the courage of the woman is not enough. It takes the support of an entire community to end violence against women.
Violence continues to be the greatest gender inequality rights issue for women, girls and gender-diverse individuals. 1 in 3 women will experience gender-based violence in their lifetime and these numbers increase exponentially for black, Indigenous and women of colour. Supports are available across Ontario to provide assistance to survivors of gender-based violence and their children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
