TraceSafe, powered by TELUS
To provide the safest environment possible for everyone attending the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, Hockey Canada has partnered with TraceSafe, powered by TELUS, to provide participants with wearable safety technology that will provide contact tracing and physical distancing during the event.
The contact tracing and physical distancing technology has been used worldwide and recently won the Singapore National Innovation Challenge award for a Digital Tool to Facilitate a COVID-Safe, Smart and Integrated Management of Worksite and Workforce.
How TraceSafe, powered by TELUS, works
With state-of-the-art wearable technology from TraceSafe, all teams, event staff and media attending the World Juniors will be issued event credentials that contain a contact tracing beacon. This small, embedded device communicates with a wireless LTE gateway box, which will allow contract tracing and prompt physical distance reminders for all attendees who are within the tournament bubble.
The use of wearable safety technology will be complemented by regular COVID-19 testing throughout the event to promote the health and safety of participants at all times. If an attendee is diagnosed or discloses that they have COVID-19, TraceSafe’s contract-tracing management system will identify individuals who may have come into contact with the infected person, allowing for quick notification and containment of the outbreak.
In addition, when teams arrive for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, they will self-isolate in their hotel rooms. During this period, they will wear a TraceSafe disposable quarantine-management wearable that will ensure all health and safety protocols are met.
Privacy is a priority
TraceSafe, powered by TELUS, values privacy; this is why our solutions have privacy and security built in. Data collected by our wearables is pseudonymized and secured using top-level encryption. Our technology only monitors interactions with other people within authorized locations. Localized contact tracing cannot function once the participant leaves the contact site, eliminating fears of being “always-on”. No smartphone app download required.
